DALLAS FORT WORTH

ABOUT

Dallas-Fort Worth is now home to one of the largest populations of Muslims in the United States. They are friends, neighbors, doctors, teachers, mechanics, and musicians. They are mothers, fathers, grandparents, children, aunts, and uncles.  Each serves a vital role in our community.

Many were first welcomed to the Metroplex as refugees from war-torn homelands.  Still others were awarded sanctuary for their brave service alongside our US military in their respective countries of origin.

Regardless of the life circumstances leading to their arrival in North Texas, the challenges awaiting them here are many. At BBN we realize that the acculturation process is a difficult one, and we seek to pave the way through educational assistance, trauma processing, mentorship and more.

PROJECTS

ENGLISH CLASSES

Our ESL (English as a Second Language) program begins September 2021, focused on young mothers within one of our local refugee apartment communities.

MENTORSHIP/TUTORING

During the COVID-19 pandemic we responded to a need among our elementary refugee population, providing a virtual mentorship for students.  This was a tremendous way to serve them, particularly as they transitioned from brick-and-mortar classrooms to online schooling.

PARTNERSHIPS

BBN partners with local refugee services and ministries.

ADVOCACY & ASSISTANCE

We assist new arrivals, as well as long-termers with cultural adaption, educational advocacy, employment/application assistance, and much more.

TRAUMA RECOVERY GROUPS

Many of those we serve have come from extremely traumatic backgrounds.  These groups offer the opportunity to process grief stories within the context of a close, safe, and confidential community.
